Co-Directors Cara O'Connell and Christine Williams
Our two co-directors have been with Carillon Preschool for five years. They both started in August of 2015 when The Rev. Beth Phillips was called to Christ Church as the Rector. All three enjoyed the tutelage of then interim director Nancy Kruberg who had been a previous director and was instrumental in the establishment of Carillon since its inception. Cara and Christine were co-teachers in 2015, and so they are teaming up once again as co-directors and Nancy Kruberg remains on a consulting bases. Their biographies are below.
Cara O'Connell, Co-Director and Pre-K Plus Teacher (Ladybugs)
Cara began her teaching career in New Jersey where she earned a BA Degree from Georgian Court University in Elementary Education with a specialty in Sociology. She has continued her professional growth by taking ECE classes from Foothill College. She has been teaching in the Early Childhood Education field for over 20 years.
Her family moved to California in 2001. A year later, She began teaching Early Childhood Education in a 3’s Program and added a 2’s Program for a number of years. For the past four years she has been truly enjoying teaching a Pre-K Program. She is passionate about teaching children and helping prepare them for Kindergarten through a fun, enriched, and relaxed environment. She is married and has four beautiful children, two sons ages 21 and 19, and 15 year old twin daughters. It gives her great joy to have the opportunity to support children’s growth, watch them realize new and amazing aspects of themselves, their peers, and the environment that surrounds them. She is thrilled to begin her new chapter teaching at Carillon Preschool.
Christine Williams, Co-Director and Pre-K Teacher (Butterflies and Honeybees)
Christine began her studies in Early Childhood Education in 1997. She received her Early Childhood Education Certificate from Cañada College in 2001, followed by an AA Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies With Emphasis in Social & Behavioral Sciences. She continues to take courses in pursuit of obtaining more certificates and degrees. Early on, Christine worked with families along the peninsula providing personal, in-home childcare for ten and a half years. Utilizing her studies, experience, and knowledge of child development, she went on to teach 2’s, 3’s/4’s, and Pre-K in school settings for several years. Christine has been with Carillon School since 2015 as a Honeybee teacher and was assigned the title of co-director in 2019. She takes pride in being a proactive teacher who provides positive guidance, quality care, support for developmental growth, and ideas contributing to an enriching play-based curriculum. Christine is a mom of three wonderful children. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, writing, spending time at the lake and reading.
Mariella Campo, Pre-K Teacher (Butterflies and Honeybees)
Mariella has been teaching for 22 years. Ever since she was a little girl, she knew she wanted to teach young children. Right after high school, she attended Cañada College to earn a certificate in Early Childhood Education. Mariella continues her education at Cañada College. Her experience with children ranges from infant to 6 years of age. Mariella started an enrichment program to teach early learners phonics and math. She specializes in teaching children to learn site words and read simple sentences. She also teaches math in a fun exciting way as her program introduces number recognition, addition and subtraction. Mariella is a very dedicated teacher who will go above and beyond to ensure a fun and safe environment. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her fur baby and fiancé. She loves going to the beach, sporting events and spending time with friends.
Deborah McGibbon, Pre-K Plus Teacher (Ladybugs)
Debra is a Bay Area native, having been born in Redwood City. She attended Cupertino schools, and later returned to teach in that very same district. She earned a B.S. in Child Development from U.C. Davis, a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from U.C. Santa Barbara, and an M.A. in Educational Administration from San Francisco State. After completing her credential, she worked with preschool children for several years. She then moved to public school Kindergarten, staying for 38 years. Her idea of a meaningful retirement? Teaching preschool once more! She loves creating curriculum and programs for young children, and thanks Carillon for allowing her to do this.
Debra shares her home with her husband (another retired teacher who now substitute teaches!) and a brother/sister pair of cats who prove their worth by providing a daily dose of hilarity. Debra and her husband love to hike in the nearby hills, often followed by coffee at the Village Hub. They belong to two choirs, and look forward to summer travels.
